When the Righteous Flourish, the People Rejoice, But When the Wicked Rule, People Groan!

Proverbs 29

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

29 One who becomes stiff-necked, after many reprimands will be shattered instantly— beyond recovery.

2 When the righteous flourish, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, people groan.

3 A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but one who consorts with prostitutes destroys his wealth.

4 By justice a king brings stability to a land, but a man who demands “contributions”[a] demolishes it.

5 A man who flatters[b] his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

6 An evil man is caught by sin, but the righteous one sings and rejoices.

7 The righteous person knows the rights[c] of the poor, but the wicked one does not understand these concerns.

8 Mockers inflame a city, but the wise turn away anger.

9 If a wise man goes to court with a fool, there will be ranting and raving but no resolution.[d]

10 Bloodthirsty men hate an honest person, but the upright care about him.[e]

11 A fool gives full vent to his anger,[f] but a wise man holds it in check.

12 If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials will be wicked.

13 The poor and the oppressor have this in common:[g] the Lord gives light to the eyes of both.

14 A king who judges the poor with fairness— his throne will be established forever.

15 A rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a youth left to himself[h] is a disgrace to his mother.

16 When the wicked increase, rebellion increases, but the righteous will see their downfall.

17 Discipline your son, and it will bring you peace of mind and give you delight.

18 Without revelation[i] people run wild, but one who listens to instruction will be happy.

19 A slave cannot be disciplined by words; though he understands, he doesn’t respond.

20 Do you see a man who speaks too soon? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

21 A slave pampered from his youth will become arrogant[j] later on.

22 An angry man stirs up conflict, and a hot-tempered man[k] increases rebellion.

23 A person’s pride will humble him, but a humble spirit will gain honor.

24 To be a thief’s partner is to hate oneself; he hears the curse but will not testify.[l]

25 The fear of man is a snare, but the one who trusts in the Lord is protected.[m]

26 Many seek a ruler’s favor, but a man receives justice from the Lord.

27 An unjust man is detestable to the righteous, and one whose way is upright is detestable to the wicked.

Psalm 91

The Protection of the Most High

1 The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say[a] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

3 He Himself will deliver you from the hunter’s net, from the destructive plague. 4 He will cover you with His feathers; you will take refuge under His wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, the arrow that flies by day, 6 the plague that stalks in darkness, or the pestilence that ravages at noon. 7 Though a thousand fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, the pestilence will not reach you. 8 You will only see it with your eyes and witness the punishment of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord—my refuge, the Most High—your dwelling place, 10 no harm will come to you; no plague will come near your tent. 11 For He will give His angels orders concerning you, to protect you in all your ways. 12 They will support you with their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent.

14 Because he is lovingly devoted to Me, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows My name. 15 When he calls out to Me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will rescue him and give him honor. 16 I will satisfy him with a long life and show him My salvation.

God I Need You!

God has blessed us everyday!  Let us bless Him by coming into His presence with others at church!  Have a wonderful Sunday!!

The One Who Lives With Integrity Will Be Helped, But One Who Distorts Right and Wrong Will Fall

Proverbs 28

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

28 The wicked flee when no one is pursuing them, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

2 When a land is in rebellion, it has many rulers, but with a discerning and knowledgeable person, it endures.

3 A destitute leader[a] who oppresses the poor is like a driving rain that leaves no food.

4 Those who reject the law praise the wicked, but those who keep the law battle against them.

5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand everything.

6 Better a poor man who lives with integrity than a rich man who distorts right and wrong.[b]

7 A discerning son keeps the law, but a companion of gluttons humiliates his father.

8 Whoever increases his wealth through excessive interest collects it for one who is kind to the poor.

9 Anyone who turns his ear away from hearing the law— even his prayer is detestable.

10 The one who leads the upright into an evil way will fall into his own pit, but the blameless will inherit what is good.

11 A rich man is wise in his own eyes, but a poor man who has discernment sees through him.

12 When the righteous triumph, there is great rejoicing,[c] but when the wicked come to power, people hide themselves.

13 The one who conceals his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them will find mercy.

14 Happy is the one who is always reverent, but one who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

15 A wicked ruler over a helpless people is like a roaring lion or a charging bear.

16 A leader who lacks understanding is very oppressive, but one who hates dishonest profit prolongs his life.

17 A man burdened by bloodguilt[d] will be a fugitive until death. Let no one help him.

18 The one who lives with integrity will be helped, but one who distorts right and wrong[e] will suddenly fall.

19 The one who works his land will have plenty of food, but whoever chases fantasies will have his fill of poverty.

20 A faithful man will have many blessings, but one in a hurry to get rich will not go unpunished.

21 It is not good to show partiality— yet a man may sin for a piece of bread.

22 A greedy man[f] is in a hurry for wealth; he doesn’t know that poverty will come to him.

23 One who rebukes a person will later find more favor than one who flatters[g] with his tongue.

24 The one who robs his father or mother and says, “That’s no sin,” is a companion to a man who destroys.

25 A greedy person provokes conflict, but whoever trusts in the Lord will prosper.

26 The one who trusts in himself[h] is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.

27 The one who gives to the poor will not be in need, but one who turns his eyes away[i] will receive many curses.

28 When the wicked come to power, people hide, but when they are destroyed, the righteous flourish.

The Secret to Joy in Life is in Simplicity!

In Galatians 1:1 Paul writes “Who has bewitched you, you foolish Galatians from believing the simplicity of the Gospel….”  What had happened was there were some that were preaching they received the message of the Gospel through simple believing faith.  Others were teaching they believed unto salvation, but also had to adhere to laws to be saved as well!

When we deviate from the simplicity of the Word of God and begin to put MANMADE rules and regulations with it, we are in trouble.  God saves, heals, and blesses by HIS Word and the keeping of it, not what people think  makes us holy unto God and sanctified!

In Texas, Mexican food is a very yummy thing!  You tell me we are going to a Mexican restaurant and I can get ready in under one minute!!  I LOVE Mexican food and Texas has the BEST hands down!  Today I saw a show where there was a Guacamole dip contest.  The judge was interviewing different contestants before the judging began.  She came to one lady and her words caught my attention.  She said, “It is not pineapple, cumin, etc. that makes guacamole.  That takes away from what guacamole really is.  It is the simplicity of the guacamole that makes it so delicious!”  Guess who won the contest?  You got it!  The woman who used only 3 ingredients.  The others had given their recipes so many twist (chilis, pineapple, cumin, etc.) they had actually ruined the dip!  The lady who used Haas avocados, salt, and sweet onion won hands down!  Three simple ingredients with huge dividends;  a blue ribbon and a hefty check!!!

That is how many preachers are today.  They find a mere man, admire his teaching, take his/her book and quote it more than they do the Bible!  What is sad is the book doesn’t even have any Biblical basis in it!  I heard  a minister say one time when another minister applied to work for him, he always made a surprise visit to his home.  The first thing he would say to the minister would be, “Let me see your underwear drawer.”  The poor young minister would lead him to the bedroom and show him the drawer.  If his underwear drawer was not in pristine condition, folded to perfection, and in a specific order he would not give him the job.  He would say, “Your disorganization of your dresser shows the disorganization of your relationship with God and your ministry.  There is no room for you on my team!”  Now, my dear reader, this is a TRUE story I heard with my own ears!  I call it bologna!!  If that was what brought the anointing upon a minister, you could go and find any number of perfectionists, called or not,  put them in the pulpit and have a fantastic ministry team!  What HOGWASH!  This is what Paul was talking about when he spoke of legalism being mixed with “faith”!

God never intended for the Word, the ministry, or your life in serving Him to be complicated!  That is man’s doing!  A young child can understand the Gospel!  The Holy Spirit is the BEST TEACHER!  He knows exactly how to take what people make so complicated and make it so easy.  Believe me, He isn’t going to start with your underwear drawer or any other dresser drawer!  He is going to start with your heart!!

Never, never, never take what people say, publish, or anything else take the place of God’s word!  If they can’t prove their methods through at least three scriptures (and I don’t mean partial scriptures taken out of context) you don’t have sound doctrine!  The Gospel is simple and we should keep it that way!  There are NO new revelations!  They may be new to you because you are young in the Lord and never heard them before, but God isn’t keeping secrets and only revealing them to certain ones so they can be admired, followed, and made rich from their “new revelation” book!  RUN, RUN, RUN with all your might when you run into people like this!

Keep it simple, full of joy, full of peace.  Stay with Aunt Doris’ formula….stay in the Word, stay on your knees, and stay in church!  Amazing, that just so happens to be God’s formula, too!  Now how about that!

Blessings to you, precious reader!  See you next time!!
