I have written on ‘The Blessing’, and I have much more to share on that subject. I am going to briefly interrupt that particular series because, honestly, I need to get this down in my spirit and writing helps me do that.
I have seen so much confusion about this following passage of scripture, and when I found this writing by Ken Hagin, Sr., I had to study it out and really get it in my spirit and mind! God does not want us confused, or in disagreement! There are people who are both confused and in disagreement over this particular passage, and they equate it to personal experiences and do not measure it with the full Word of God. You will always be confused, and most of the time wrong, when you do this!
I have heard the phrases, ‘praying through’, and ‘pray until you touch God’, for a great deal of my life. What is praying through? Praying through should mean you pray until you become convinced God is willing to do for you what you have asked according to His word, not until you have convinced Him to stand by it. Too often the ‘old timers’ mean the last part of that sentence when they say this!
Remember faith is believing not only God can, but God will! God doesn’t need convincing! He said He valued His Word above His name! In other words, He stands by His promises readily and cannot break them. God isn’t even tempted to break His Word to you! He isn’t a liar or a con artist.
What does it mean when people say to pray until you touch God? They mean basically the same thing as ‘praying through’. It means you pray until God is touched and moved to compassion by your tears, sorrow, and pleading. This is so unbiblical I cannot believe anybody ever bought into it!
What touches God, according to the Bible, is faith! I don’t see anywhere, where the amount of tears you cry, how loud you scream, how much you beg, or the amount of times you ask Him for something ‘touches’ God. Again, you may need to pray until you are convinced, but God was convinced of His word and His willingness to give you the promises He made in the word the instant He said them!
I am taking the following from Ken Hagin’s “Prayer Workbook”. It explains this subject so well and so thoroughly. May our old ideologies that do not hold with the Bible be put to rest once and for all time!
THE PRAYER OF IMPORTUNITY
Luke recorded something about faith and prayer that neither Mark nor Matthew said. Luke talked about the prayer of importunity, that is, being persistent in your faith and in your praying. Again, so many people miss it when they hear that. They believe what Jesus is saying is this: “You just keep on asking, and eventually you will get it.” Let’s look at this passage of scripture to see what it is actually saying.
5 And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;
6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?
7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.
8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.
Here was a man who had a friend who came to his house in the nighttime to visit. The man didn’t have any bread to set before his friend, so he went to another friend’s house and said, “A friend has come to visit and I have no food. Please, lend me three loaves of bread.”
The second friend said, “But, I’m already in bed and my children are in bed, too.” And the Bible says, “…Though he will not rise and give him because he is his friend, yet because of IMPORTUNITY he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.” (Luke 11:8).
If you take this passage literally, then God would be likened to the friend who is in bed. However, we know that God never sleeps nor slumbers (Psalm 121:3-4). Therefore, we know this verse is showing us an analogy or a similarity to scriptural prayer because Jesus was teaching on prayer when He gave this illustration. He was proving a point.
Jesus was simply saying that even in the natural you could get results from a friend like the man did in Luke 11, not necessarily because a person was your friend, but because of your urgent request. In other words, a person might not grant the favor because he is your friend, but he would grant you the favor because of your importunity; that is, you wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Then Jesus said, “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you” (Luke 11:9). You see, it is the importunity of faith, not the importunity of unbelief that gets the job done. However, you could just keep on begging God and be importunate all you want to, and you would never get an answer even if you lived to be a hundred years old! Why not? Because your importune praying must be in faith, not unbelief.
It is the importunity of faith that works. So believe God’s Word that when you ask, it shall be given you. When you seek, you shall find. When you knock, it shall be opened unto you!
I like something Andrew Murray said that will help you to see what I am talking about. As I said, so many people have the idea that if they keep on asking the same thing over and over again, eventually they will get their request. They seem to think that is what Jesus is talking about in the passages of Scripture we’ve covered in Matthew 7 and Luke 11. But as Andrew Murray said, it is not good taste to ask the Lord for the same thing over and over again. It is just not good taste; actually, it is doubt and unbelief.
Murray said that if you pray to God about something you’ve already prayed for and it hasn’t materialized, do not ask again the same way you did the first time. To do that would be a confession that you didn’t believe God the first time you asked Him! You could get into doubt and unbelief by asking for the same thing over and over again.
But just remind God of what you asked for if it hasn’t materialized yet. Remind Him of what He promised and put Him in remembrance of His Word (Isaiah 43:26). Remind Him that you are expecting the answer. That way you are staying in faith, and you are being persistent in your faith. That is what it means to be importunate in your faith, and this kind of praying will bring results.
You can see then that Jesus is saying in this passage the very opposite of what most people think He is saying. So don’t stay on the negative side of importunity in prayer–just asking and begging and crying and pleading in doubt and unbelief hoping that God has heard you. That kind of praying in unbelief will never bring any results.
Instead, ask God in faith according to His Word, and believe that you receive when you pray. Then be importunate in faith, continually thanking God for the answer to your prayers. That is the prayer of importunity that will always bring results!
God moves in this earth as His children pray in faith according to the principles in His Word. So pray for those who despitefully use you, and see God move in their lives for good. Pray for laborers to be sent into the harvest, and see your prayers answered as souls come into the Kingdom of God.
Never give up in prayer; never faint in your faith! As you continue diligently to pray in faith, more and more you will see God’s will fulfilled both in your life and in the lives of others!
And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Deuteronomy 28:1-68
I could literally laugh out loud now. I guarantee you God has a sense of humor! I have sold my house, and we are living temporarily in a travel trailer. We are looking for another home and there isn’t a prospect in sight, and the Lord has me writing on ‘The Blessing’! Now tell me God doesn’t know how to make us laugh!
For about two years, I tried to really study out the blessing of Abraham. I knew as God’s children we were under that same covenant of blessing, but I really didn’t fully know what all it entailed, nor could I fully explain it. I tried to study it in depth but it was as though the timing was always off. I would pick up my study materials and I just could not stick with them. I just seemed led in another direction every single time.
Since our house sold, the days after are now turning into weeks and I have needed this knowledge to keep my faith up! I will never lie to you, dear reader. I did cry a few tears tonight, but praise God for hubby who spoke the word to me and I felt myself rallying again in the Spirit!
I have read Deuteronomy 28. It is the blessing God spoke upon Abraham. What is so marvelous is the fact it is the same blessing we as Christians live under as well. We don’t always see the effects of it in every Christian’s life, because it is not known by all Christians. God has a full account of all good things that are yours for the asking and receiving! You can’t withdraw from an account that is in your name if you don’t realize it exist.
It is as if a parent or grandparent opened a savings account for their child or grandchild. Years can go by and steadily that person deposits money into that account for future use. If the child never becomes privy to the fact they have money in this account, they will never be able to withdraw from it or benefit from it.
God will not and has not left us in the dark and He has not hidden information from us. It is all in His last ‘Will and Testament’. That ‘Will and Testament’ is the word of God! If we don’t know what it says, we can never lay claim to what it says we can and do have!
Do you know the blessing of Abraham spans the entire Bible? For God to say something over and over, He meant for us to take it and take it seriously! He doesn’t give false hope nor does He give empty promises! Let’s take an in depth look at what God says about living in the blessing!!
In Genesis 12:2-3 and 13:2 God tells Abraham, “I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing ; and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee; and in thee shall all families of the earth be BLESSED….And Abram was very rich….”
Now let us look in Galatians. Galatians 3:14 ” That THE BLESSING of Abraham might come on the Gentiles…” That is US!! The same blessing God promised Abraham, we now qualify for by receiving Jesus as our Saviour! We have become the seed of Abraham as well!
Look at Galatians 3:29 “And if ye be CHRIST’S, then are ye ABRAHAM’S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE.” This is shouting ground for me! What a mighty promise and what a precious and loving Father to plan this for ALL who would come to Him through Jesus! He truly is our Father!! Glory to God!!!
Galatians 3:7-9 tells us, “Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, ‘In thee shall ALL nations be BLESSED. So then they which be of faith are BLESSED with faithful Abraham.”
THE BLESSING, is the gospel, the good news!! Verses 13-14 tells us, ” Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us; for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree; THAT THE BLESSING of Abraham might come on the Gentiles THROUGH JESUS CHRIST; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” Verses 26, 29 “For ye are all the children of God BY FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST….And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
Now when people ask you how you are, you can say, BLESSED!!” and know why you are saying it and just what you are BLESSED with! We will get deeper into the blessing tomorrow. For now, I want this to sink into my brain very, very well and into yours, too! Isn’t it good when we find out just who we really are and we didn’t have to get in a sailboat and sail around the world in less than a year to do it! The things of God are so simple…we complicate them far too much!
You are blessed, dear reader! I will see you soon!!

Mark 11:22-24 ESV
And Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
Matthew 21:22 ESV
And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.
That your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
It was one of those days yesterday! My daughter had her orientation for nursing school. It started out really well! We found out only half of those who applied got in. The professors told us those who sat in the auditorium were very special and were the ‘cream of the crop’. I liked that part.
We dispersed and the parents went to one meeting and the nursing students went to another. We found out she will be going 7 days a week, sometimes 14 hours a day. She is tough and she can handle it. This is just part of being in medicine so we were prepared for that part. When it started to try to turn sour was when I found out in one year college tuition has gone up a thousand dollars per semester! It didn’t help we almost didn’t make the cut off and would have been charged late fees, that her books were 500.00, they didn’t have her uniform that is required in her size and we had to run all over the city to find only pieces of it, or that I only got three hours of sleep last night! Her day ended in tears and so did mine!
As I watched my daughter, who is one of the kindest, most generous souls I know, cry I had to make a decision. Not everything was going as we planned. I had a choice. I could either continue to cry, wonder ‘why God why’, or I could trust God in spite of what I was seeing and set an example for my daughter to do the same!
God reminded me of all the faithful souls that were believing Him for mighty things that died without ever seeing them come to pass in their lifetimes. Did they stop believing because they went to Heaven before the things they prayed for came to pass? NO! They believed until their time here ended and God brought it about, even when they were gone. They could have given up, but the Bible tells us they believed and Jesus found them in faith until the end!
We have that same opportunity. What a testimony to our faith and to others when we believe in spite of what the circumstances tell us. When we are able to close ourselves off from the disappointments of the day and remember how God has always come through for us, even when we saw no end in sight or a light at the end of the tunnel.
God’s word is true no matter what it looks like is happening in my life. My life and the circumstances of it are temporary. God’s word is forever established! I have seen things change on a dime when I praised God through hard times, but I never have seen change when I was moaning and complaining. Thank God, praise and trust bring breakthroughs and nothing about that is ever going to change!
There is an old song we used to sing when I was a little girl. I can only remember a small part of it, but what I remember is powerful to me. I think the song was titled, “He Will Do It Again“. I remember this much…‘Just take a look at where you are now and where you’ve been…Hasn’t He always come through for you, He is the same now as then…you may not know how, you may not know when, but He’ll do it again.”
God bless you, dear reader! You have nothing to fear or dread today, or any day…the God of this universe, if you are a Christian, is your Daddy God! You don’t just know of or about Him…you are His own! How could it NOT work out for you?? You are loved by the most powerful being that exist and when He sees you coming, He runs to meet you! Think about that or awhile and let it sink in really good, as we say in Texas. Yeah…let it sink in really good!
Amplified Bible (AMP)
11 Now faith is the assurance (the confirmation, [a]the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses].
Recently, I have had two friends diagnosed with cancer…both are younger than fifty-five. I just had blood work done that came back with some results I am not pleased with. I want to see an excellent report on my follow up blood work by the time I see my doctor again. I ask you to agree with me in prayer for my dear friends and for me, precious reader! God‘s will is healing, health and wholeness!
PRAYER FOR HEALING/GLORIA COPELAND
This is what Jesus said about prayer, “Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain,’Be thou removed, be thou cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass. He shall have whatsoever he saith.’ Therefore, I say unto you,” this is Jesus speaking “Therefore, I say unto you, what things so ever you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them.” That’s in your Bible, Mark 11:22, 23 and 24. Jesus said to believe that you receive when you pray, and you will have it. Now I am going to pray for you. Now faith take takes the answer when it prays. As I pray, you take your answer, and you begin to do what you couldn’t do before. If you couldn’t lift your arm up, throw it up there! If you couldn’t get up, get up! Act on the Word of God. Why? Because you’ve received your healing. Father, I pray for every person. I pray the healing anointing to come upon them right now in the name of Jesus. In Jesus’ name, you be healed from the top of your head to the soles of your feet. You just right now say, “I take my healing. I take it, Lord. I take it.” And, then do something you couldn’t do before. If you couldn’t throw up your hand, throw it up there. If you couldn’t move a leg, begin to move in Jesus’ name. What are you doing? You are taking your healing. You take it. Faith takes! Glory to God! And, this is one of the key places when Jesus teaches us about how to receive anything from the Lord. If you need help in your finances. Take prosperity. Believe you receive it, and act on it. If you need a job, take a job right now as we pray. Glory to God. We’re here for you. We’ve have all kinds of information, teachings on the website, articles, prayers, devotionals, things to help you grow in the Lord. Ken and I are intensely interested in you. And, we know that Jesus is intensely interested in you and wants you healed and prosperous and well. This is Gloria Copeland reminding you that Jesus is Lord! –Gloria Copeland
