Daily Bible Devotion-What Condition Is Your Heart In?

DAILY BIBLE DEVOTION

I am amazed that Americans spend literally billions of dollars on weight loss products, vitamins, and supplements every year.  You hear things like, “Have a mammogram every year, have your colon checked every three years, make sure you get annual physicals.”  We are told how much water to drink, what to eat and not eat, how many times to exercise per week and what kind of exercise to do and I AM ALL FOR THESE THINGS!!  BUT, when was the last time you did a self-examination of your heart?  I don’t mean your physical heart, but your soulish heart?  If we put the time, research and effort into examining ourselves spiritually like  we do physically, not only would we be happier, but those around us would be, too!

When you are a blogger you are given statistics and can see what people are reading.  You can see the “terms” they searched the internet for.  I am amazed by the lack of searches for devotions, Bible verses, and  Christian literature in general.  The very thing that can extend your physical life is inclusive with the condition of your soul and how much you apply God‘s Word. Timothy wrote and told us this very thing.  In 1 Timothy 4:8 God’s Word Translation it says:

Training the body helps a little, but godly living helps in every way. Godly living has the promise of life now and in the world to come.

Training the body helps a little.  Does this mean we ignore what is good for our bodies and just let ourselves go?  Of course not!  But look at the rest of that verse…”but godly living helps in every way.”  Here we have a wealth of information!  Godly living is the secret to good health and it helps more than anything else you can do.  You can have the best doctors in the world, take all the right supplements, eat all the “cleanest” foods, and if you are bitter, wrought up with anger, upset, have uncontrolled stress, and anxiety you are harming your physical body!  Your major organs take a beating from this.  Adrenalin pumps too much into your system which can cause ulcers, tachycardia (which left untreated can lead to a weakened heart), high blood pressure, migraine headaches, and bone and muscle damage!

A study was done some time ago.  Doctors wanted to know how closely the mind worked with the body in either keeping it healthy or causing it to be diseased.  They found in the participants of this study, those who prayed or were prayed for were more than ten times more likely to recover than those who did not!

My father has worked in medicine for over 40 years.  One of the doctors he worked with saw such a difference in patients who were “religious” versus patients who were not, he hired a minister to do rounds and pray and speak encouraging, healing scriptures over his patients!  This was  back in the 70s before the previous study I mentioned was even thought of!  Sure enough, his patients recovered faster, had fewer complications, and needed fewer follow-up visits than others who did not have this advantage!  Oh, and the minister he hired was one of his heart patients!  This man lived for many, many years to come and thrived in his health!  This doctor soon developed quite a reputation in the community.  He is in his eighties today and still practices!

Faith not only removes mountains, precious friend, but it prevents disease and lengthens your life!  Obedience is better than sacrifice because it causes literal physical laws to be set in motion that keeps you healthy and whole spirit, soul, and body.  I will leave you in a different way today.  I am going to leave you with Gos-pills!  The Bible is full of them.  They will not only lengthen your life but give you a reason to live in the process!  They are the best “supplement” to your diet that I know.  They are power packed and guaranteed to work.  Where else do you find a miracle like that?  Pay as much attention to your spiritual condition as you do to your physical.   Take as much care of it, if not greater, and see miraculous results!

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.  (Fear here means to reverence God, not be afraid of Him).    Proverbs 10:27

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.    Proverbs 9:10-11

My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.    Proverbs 3:1-2

Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.  Ephesians 6:2-3

Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.  Proverbs 3:13-16

What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good?  Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.  Depart from evil,  and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.   Psalms 34:12-14

Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.  Deuteronomy 5:33

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.  Proverbs 17:22 ESV

A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.  Proverbs 14:30 ESV

Blessings, my precious readers!  I will see you soon!!  Simply, Juliana

Facing Fear and Finding Freedom

facing fear finding freedom

If you don’t remember anything else from this article, remember that fear is not from God but from Satan. See Second Timothy 1:7. Every time you feel fear in your life, it’s a manifestation of the kingdom of darkness. I often say in my teachings that fear is the “master spirit.” It’s the spirit Satan uses to try to rule God’s people and keep them from coming under the leadership of the true Master, Jesus Christ.

What Are You Afraid Of?

Multitudes of people never fulfill the call of God on their lives simply because every time they try to go forward, the devil uses fear to stop them. Is he using fear to stop you? Satan uses fear to keep people from enjoying life. Fear brings torment, according to 1 John 4:18, and you surely can’t enjoy life and be tormented at the same time.

I want to encourage you to take an inventory in the fear department. What are you afraid of? Are there any areas in your life that are being stifled because of fear? Satan is always going to bring fear against us at various times. It’s one of his major weapons—not a cap gun, but a cannon.

Stepping Out in Spite of Fear

All of us must learn how not to “fear the fear.” The devil brings fear, but you can choose not to bow your knee to it. David said, “What time I am afraid, I will…trust…in You” (Psalm 56:3). I believe we can say that when God leads you to step out in an area to do something new, or leads you to make a bigger commitment, you may (or probably will) feel fear. However, if you’re sure God told you to do it, put your trust in Him and go forward.

I have to apply this same principle to my life all the time. Years ago, we realized that we really needed more office space. At the same time, we needed more employees, which would require more desks, computers, phones, etc. We had a choice. We had prayed for growth so we could help more people. And everything did increase—resource orders, speaking engagements, incoming phone calls, mail, etc. It was God’s timing, and He was moving.

We had to make a decision to either stand still in fear or move with God. If we had not been willing to rent more space and hire more people, we couldn’t have kept up with the growth. I can tell you for sure that fear tried to stop me. I heard things like, “Joyce, you’re getting in over your head.” “That’s too much money to spend.” “What if the increase doesn’t continue?” I’m sure you know the recording; you’ve probably heard it also.

We certainly don’t want to move in the flesh or out of God’s timing, but when God is moving, you can’t be afraid to move with Him. In my situation, I had a choice to be led by my head or follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

How Fear Works

Some common fears are fear of lack, death, loneliness, people, authority, commitment, heights, germs, closed-in spaces, airplanes, dogs, cats, failure, rejection, being laughed at, and even fear of being attractive.

We went to the library and got a typed list of known phobias—it was four pages long. It even included phobaphobia, which is the fear of being afraid. It seems that the list is endless. It convinced me even more of how extensive Satan’s work is in this area.

Face Fear and Move Forward

Isaiah 41:10 says, Fear not, for I am with you. I believe God works gently with us to bring us out of bondage and into liberty. If you’ve been afraid of something and desire to be free, the time will eventually come when you’ll have to face your fear and not run away from it. Just take Jesus’ hand, acknowledge that He is with you, and do it. If you’re afraid of people with authority, the time will come when you’ll have to confront an authority figure and not cower in fear. God will have arranged the time. He’ll be there, but you’ll have to choose whether to go through or run away.

If you’re at one of these crossroads in your life, let me encourage you to go forward. Don’t stand still in terror, but take His hand and go forward. Remember, fear torments and God wants to deliver you from all of your fears.

I’ve Got You, Baby!

27 Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]  John 14:27

This is my grandfather.  I called him “Big Daddy“.  My grandfather was a wonderful man!  Just being near him gave me great security as a child.  I knew as long as Big Daddy was around, nothing could hurt me!

When I was about 21 years old, my family went to the State Fair.  My grandfather wanted me to ride the ferris wheel.  I had a great fear of heights!!  I did NOT want on that ride!  I was so afraid the man would get me at the top and stop the ride and leave me there.  I did not want to disappointment my grandfather so I got on it, in spite of my fear!  When we got on it I looked at him.  He was so thrilled to ride it and for me to ride it with him!  Big Daddy was always a little like a kid.  He loved fireworks, to  play with my brother and me, to see our faces when he had a surprise for us, and he ALWAYS had a surprise for us!  As the ride began to move I did okay until we got to the top.  I began to feel terror seize me.  I grabbed Big Daddy and I told him I was scared.  He got a concerned look on his face.  He put his arm around me and held me tightly and said, “It is okay!  I’ve got you, Baby!”  As the ride moved to the top again, he began to say in a calm soothing voice, “Look.  Look and see if you can see Momma and Ma (my grandmother)”.  He was trying to get my mind off of my fear and onto something else.

As I read the news today about all the unrest in the middle east and even in the United States I began to think of the scriptures that  tell of what it will be like in the last days before Jesus returns.  I knew I was seeing Bible prophecy in action!  Even Universities have had to close their doors in Texas due to terrorists threats! I began to sense an uneasiness coming on me then I heard God say as plain as day, “It is okay!  I’ve got you, Baby!”   Glory to God!!!  Just like it says in Psalm 91, a thousand may fall at our right hand and ten thousand on our left, but  it SHALL NOT COME NEAR US!  ONLY A SPECTATOR SHALL WE BE!!!  I began to feel that same peace and security I had when my grandfather was alive.  I realized my God is greater than ALL and He has me!  I have nothing to fear!!  In fact, I have EVERYTHING  to look forward to, because my Jesus is about to appear in the clouds and take us home!  Praise God!!

This is a time to be mindful of our Christian brothers and sisters all over the world!  Many are in great danger!!  But, our Saviour is with them, just as He is with us!  Pray for angels to surround them with protection!  Pray they are safe at ALL times!  Pray for their EVERY need to  be supplied!!  Pray those who have not come to know Jesus as Lord and Saviour  no longer put it off!  The time is short!!  His coming is at hand!  Even now, He stands at the door knocking!  Let Him enter your heart if you have not.   Pray for our country and for wisdom for those who are in office!  Pray as the election comes upon us, that WE have wisdom as well!  Our country’s future depends on it!

Blessings to you, precious reader!  May God’s peace permeate your heart as well, today!
