Patiently Waiting

dream home2

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?  Numbers 23:19

I have been patiently waiting for our next house to come open for a whole month.  How silly that sounds to my own ears, but living in  a one bedroom travel trailer is something that takes patience, organization (messes can pile up quickly), and grace to do.  I am so thankful God provided us with it and a place to park, but I am ready to ‘go home’.

I have found my ‘dream home’.  If you have bought a house recently or sold one you know there is so much to it.  In my naïve way, I kind of thought it would  be like going to the grocery store and getting whatever you needed, neatly placing it on the counter, and then paying and leaving.  How out of the ‘loop’ I am!

As I wait, I have found myself praying a familiar prayer.  ‘If it is okay with you, Father.  Thy will be done!  Don’t let us make a wrong move!!”  I have heard so many times, our lives can get messy because we didn’t say or do something a certain way and we caused our own demise.  Yes, that is true to a degree.  Something I have learned is God is not so uninvolved in our lives that He would let us totally mess it up beyond repair.  God is merciful and full of graciousness and compassion.  If your child were about to step into oncoming traffic, would you not reach out and grab them??  They have their own free will, yes, but you still have an element of control over situations in their lives when they are small.  God will not ‘control’ us, but He certainly will protect us when we are doing our best for Him.

I remember Joyce Meyer teaching once that God told her, “Joyce, I am not as hard to get along with as some make Me out to be.”  I know what He means when He says that.  I think people many times measure God by their authoritative and exacting bosses, abusive fathers, or controlling spouses.  We measure God by people and it will never compute that way!  Why?  Because you have tried to put the wrong variables together.

God is not a man.  He is not like people who live and deal with others by whims, moods, or personality types.  God is good and is love.  His very nature is compassion and mercy!  Do we try Him due to that?  Of course not!  But, we know God has only good planned for us and He will get that good to us!

If you saw your child doing their best at school, yet struggling in a subject would you punish them?  If you are a good parent you would not. You would hire tutors, get them extra help, meet with their teacher to let them know you are aware there is a problem and you are there to help.  Why?  Because you know it isn’t that child’s fault.  You know they are doing all they are capable of doing and your love for your child has caused you to feel compassion toward them.  It has caused you to do things you would not normally have done to ensure your child’s success!

God is no different with us.  He gives full grace and leads us in ways we didn’t know to go on our own, to get us to the best place, at the right time for us.

Thank God for reminders of his grace and mercy.  In the meantime, I will patiently wait knowing He can be fully trusted.

Soon is Sooner Than You Think

jesus will return

This morning when I began my prayer time the Lord spoke to me and said, “My Son is coming soon, and it is your definition of soon.”  For years, in fact all of my life, I have heard ‘Jesus is coming soon’.  I believed it, and I still do, but I do believe some people have given up watch because it has not been our definition of soon that we have witnessed.

God spoke to me and told me to warn the people, and to others get ready, for others rejoice!  The ones who are to be warned are those who have denied Jesus and His Lordship over their lives.  This is a very stern and strong warning if you fit in this category!  Jesus is real, the Bible is true, and one day every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord.  Please, don’t do this when it is too late and you can no longer gain access into Heaven.  Heaven is real, but so is Hell and the Bible tells us it a tormenting fire that will never be quenched.  Don’t spend your eternity there!!

For  some time, one of my son’s friends from the past has been on my mind.  He proclaims to be an atheist.  I decided to make contact with him and ask him where he now stood in his stance concerning God.  He let me know that he had read about different religions and decided to give up trying to make the decision about what was ‘real’ to him.  He said, “For me, it is a crap shoot.  Where I end up, is where I end up.”  If you are a Christian, I ask you pray for this young man, but we would be surprised at how many take this approach, or lack thereof to God.  Oh, how my heart grieves for people like this!

To those who need to ‘get ready’.  You have played church.  You put on one face at church and around your leadership, but at home it is a different life altogether.  You lack character and you lie to yourself and others, and what sad is you have begun to believe your own lies and now there is a blur in the line of what is true and what is false.  You cheat people in your business, yet you never miss a church service or event.  You lie to God’s people and put on a front, but there are many closets you struggle to keep closed.  You know the revealing of your secrets will be your ruination, but the saddest part is, it is revealed to God and your reward in Heaven is not only dwindling, but is at stake!   I pray the eyes of your understanding are opened and you come to repentance and a genuine walk with God!  What does it matter if you gain the world, but lose your soul?

The last category is those who are to rejoice!  These are the ones who have given, and given up everything to follow Christ!  You have been faithful in small things when no one was looking and God would have you know, your reward is great!  You have spread the good news of the Gospel and you have done it openly.  You never thought to deny your Father before men and you will not be denied before your Father!  You have stood, and stood alone, when the rest of the world took easy ways and the popular road.  Life has not always been easy for you, but because of your love for God and Jesus, it has been worth it all!!

YOU are the one God will say to, “Well done, My good and faithful servant!  Enter in!!”  That day is sooner than you think and sooner than any of us know!  It will be a day of celebration, such as we have never known!  Oh, to see the face of Jesus is more than enough, but God is the God of more than enough, and your reward is great, great, great!!  Stay faithful, stay busy with the Father‘s business, but more than ANYTHING, continue in His love!!  It will be and is worth it all!!

I have delivered the message God gave me.  I know it to be real, and for some a wake up call, and for others a word of encouragement.  What category do you fit in?  NOW, IS THE TIME!!  You don’t have much longer…please, don’t let it run out on you!

Comparative and Contrasting Parables

comparative parables

Yesterday we learned about the prayer of importunity. We looked at Luke 11:5-8 as an example of importune faith and importune unbelief.   Today, let’s dig a bit deeper and talk about comparative and contrasting parables.

A comparative parable is when you are comparing the main character and their similarities in the parable to God the Father.  A contrasting parable is when Jesus is showing the difference, or non-similarities between the characters and God.

There are many comparative and contrasting parables Jesus spoke about.  An example of a comparative parable is the one where  the child who was hungry asked his father for bread.

Matthew 7:8-11

New King James Version (NKJV)

8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Jesus asked would the father give the child a stone instead of the bread.  The answer was no.  This is a comparative parable.  He goes on to say, if we being ‘evil’, which translates ‘human’,  would not give our children something that would harm them but we would give them the best we could, how much more would God give us all good things.  Here God is being compared to the good father/mother who loves their children!

Yesterday, we also saw the friend who refused to help his neighbor until he could take the neighbor’s persistent knocking no more (Luke 11:9).  This is a prime example of a contrasting parable in which Jesus shows how unlike God and God’s character is in contrast to the neighbor who thought of himself above his friend and his friend’s need.

The Bible does not contradict itself.  If God tells us when we seek we shall find, knock and the door will be opened to us, and to ask and we will be given what we ask for, then that is the way to approach God and what we can expect of Him.   When  we are told through the contrasting parable of the neighbor who would not get up to help his friend until he pestered him to death that God is not like this unkind man, then we know we don’t have to do repetitive petitioning of the same thing over and over!  If that were the case the Bible would indeed be contradicting itself.

In Luke 9 of some translations, it does say the following…

Luke 11:9-11

Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)

9 “So I say to you, keep asking,[a] and it will be given to you. Keep searching,[b] and you will find. Keep knocking,[c] and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who searches finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. 11 What father among you, if his son[d] asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish?

Why does it say this here, when clearly we have shown repetitive petitioning of the same thing is unbelief?  This scripture does not mean that.  It says to ‘keep searching and you will find’ or in other translations, ‘seek and you will find’.  I didn’t just seek God forty nine years ago when I was first saved.  I have spent my life seeking Him and His will and way in order to know Him on deeper and deeper and more personal levels.  I sought Him as a child, I sought Him yesterday, and I will seek Him every day of my life in the future to develop and maintain my personal relationship with Him.

I haven’t gone to God knocking just once, but I have gone many times to ‘knock’ in search of deeper and deeper truths.  It is the same thing with asking.  I haven’t only gone to God once in my life and asked Him for just one thing.  I have gone to God thousands of times to ask for whatever I desired or had need of that day.

The Bible tells us not to worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will have its own worries when we get there.  In other words, God took care of today when we petitioned Him and He will take care of tomorrow when we petition Him about the new things that ‘tomorrow’ brought today.  God is not a genie that grants three wishes.  God is the born again child’s Father, Who is willing to give all He has on a daily basis!  Hence, ask and keep on asking for our Father has all of Heaven and earth to give us!

It is so important to keep scripture in context and to read the entire passage it is in and not try to pull it out and make it stand alone.  In order to have solid doctrine and truth, it must be found at least in three different places in the Bible.  It is so important to view more than one translation, as well.  This is ‘rightly dividing the Word of truth’ and it is ‘studying to show thyself approved’.

I hope if you had any questions, this has cleared them up for you, precious reader!  God bless you!  I will see you soon!

God Will Withhold No Good Thing From Those Who Walk Uprightly

gracie and me

Psalm 84:11

New King James Version (NKJV)

11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly.

For those who have read my blog for any length of time, you know I have a Chihuahua named Gracie.  Gracie is my baby!  She knows it, too.  When I pick her up and love on her, she nestles into my neck and always puts her arm around my neck as if to hug me.  She gives me kisses and then cuddles into my neck, again.

I love Gracie and I am always talking about some cute thing she has done that day, because Gracie does cute things every day!  I watch her and repeatedly I will say to my husband, “Oh, baby look!  Isn’t that the cutest thing you have ever seen??  Isn’t she so precious?”

Gracie sleeps with us.  I usually go to bed first and read until hubby is ready for the night.  Gracie  goes with me.  She finds her ‘spot’ under all the blankets and snuggles as close to me as she can possibly get.  When hubby starts to get in the bed, I hold my hand out so he doesn’t accidentally put any weight on Gracie whereby possibly hurting her.  I always say the same thing, “Watch out for the ‘baby’.”  You would think we actually had a newborn child in the bed!!

Gracie isn’t fed just any food.  I buy special gourmet food for her.  It is full of vitamins and minerals, and there are no ‘byproducts’ that can harm her!  I research what natural foods are good for her and I know exactly what should be added to her diet to optimize her health!  I give her vegetables that are full of antioxidants, and fruits that keep her kidney function at its best and fights cancers as well as benefits her cardiovascular system, eyesight, and keeps her from getting arthritis as she ages. I have researched what is best for Gracie from her head to her paws!

We live in Texas and have experienced an unusually cold winter.  I knew it was coming.  I bought Gracie sweaters, fleece pajamas, and fleece throws to ensure she was warm!  I am not a morning person, but when hubby leaves for work he puts Gracie on the couch and I cannot go back to sleep until I get up and check her fur to be sure she is warm and to be sure she is not shivering.

Now, I have said all of this to make one point…if I love Gracie, a dog, as I do…I love her so much I go out of my way to see to it she eats the best, wears the best, stays in the best health, is happy, and knows she is adored, how much more so does God do this for us, His children??

Why do I do all of this for Gracie?  Because I love her with all of my heart!!  She is the apple of my eye!  She loves me unconditionally and I feel the same about her!  For all of her love and loyalty, I protect my sweet puppy with all I have!  There isn’t ANYTHING Gracie will ever be without if it is in my power to give it to her!!!!  Are you not more than a dog to our Heavenly Father??  He did not even spare the life of His own Son to call YOU and me His children!

Gracie doesn’t sit and worry if she will have food available to her all day, every day.  She is not worried about where she will sleep every night;  She has the best spot in the house!  She doesn’t cower in fear when I approach her, fearful I no longer love her, or that I will punish her for something!  She runs to greet me because she knows my arms are ready to gently hold her and love her!  Why do we do this with God?

Do we believe for one second God will ever let us go hungry,  cold, destitute, and devoid of anything that is necessary to life?  If He watches over the birds of the air, will He not all the more take care and bless us??  The birds don’t worry.  They fly and seem to know exactly where to light to find food and shelter.  Are you not more than they?  Will God not also provide for us, super abundantly,  above all we could even ask?

How anyone could question the goodness of God or the fact it is His will to bless and give us all good things is truly beyond my comprehension!  It literally defies what the Bible says.   God not only wills to do good toward us, but fully intends to bless those who are His own!

Have a good rest tonight, dear reader, for your tomorrows are truly taken care of!  You are loved and watched over by God, Himself with an everlasting love no person and no thing can separate you from!  Know, even though you may not see it all now, God has everything you need on the way. Praise Him and trust Him in the wait.
