The prayer of agreement when prayed according to Matthew 18:18-20 will cover every circumstance in life:
Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Let me use finances to illustrate. The first thing to do is agree with the Word. Read the scriptures and pray. Gloria and I sometimes write down our agreements like this: “We hereby agree, according to Philippians 4:19 and Matthew 18:19 as follows: ‘Father, we see in Your Word that You will supply all our needs according to Your riches in glory. We are setting ourselves in agreement that our financial need is met according to Your Word. We believe we receive (be specific) __________________. We establish this agreement, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.’”
Amen means “So be it.” As far as we are concerned, the matter is closed. We just thank God from that point forward. We know if we want results we must not waver. To waver is to doubt.
If Satan brings doubt, we simply speak to him in the authority of Jesus’ Name and say, “Don’t bring us your lies. Not only is it written in God’s Word, but we have agreed. We have written it down.” As far as we are concerned, the need is met. There is no doubt about it because we have agreed according to the Word of God. Consequently, our confession and actions will be in line with what we have established as truth.
There have been times when we have wavered, so we take it to God and receive forgiveness for unbelief, reinforce our original decree and go at it again. We all make mistakes in the walk of faith. The important thing is to keep walking. If you miss it, go at it again. The biggest mistake of all is to become discouraged and quit before you receive your answer.
I challenge you to write down your agreements. Seeing it in black and white on paper will make a difference! You will be more likely to line up your confession and your actions with your agreement.
Jesus said that if any two on earth agree, He would be in the midst of that agreement to see that it comes to pass. You are on earth so you qualify. If you agree with another believer as touching anything that lines up with the Word of God, He is there in your midst to carry it out.
Jesus wants you to agree and will see to it that it comes to pass. The word agree is translated in The Amplified Bible as “agree and harmonize together or make a symphony together.” The word symphony caught my attention one time, so I looked it up and found that it means “all available instruments in harmony.” You must have your spirit, mind and actions in agreement with the Word.
Agreeing spiritually is to agree with the Word of God. Make up your mind God’s Word is true and that it will come to pass.
Secondly, be strong in your mind. That is Satan’s battleground. You must control your thoughts. Writing down your agreement will be beneficial for this reason. It will keep it before your eyes so when your mind tries to change directions, control it with your agreement on God’s Word. Do not tie God’s hands. Allow Him to work.
You have agreed, spirit and soul (mind). Then your actions must come in line. If finances are what you agreed on, expect the money to come in. This is part of being in agreement. You cannot agree in prayer about something, then act the opposite and expect it to come to pass. If you do, your actions will eventually take over your thinking.
Agreement with the Word and another believer are not the only things involved in this kind of prayer. Agreement is also harmony.
Harmony is extremely important. When speaking of prayer in Mark 11:25-26, Jesus said, “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.” This is vital in your prayer life. You must forgive everyone who has offended you. Jesus did not say, “Think about it for six weeks and then forgive if or when you feel better.” He said, forgive when you pray.
Jesus prayed, “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” (Matthew 6:9-12). He put a condition on forgiveness. The condition is “I don’t expect to be forgiven until I forgive.” He displayed the kind of discipline the believer should exercise when he is praying. How important is this? In Galatians 5:6, the Bible says faith works by love. If you are operating with an unforgiving heart, your prayer life will be paralyzed.
The Word says we know we have the petitions we have desired of Him, if we do the things that are pleasing in His sight (I John 3:22). Put these scriptures together and you quickly see unforgiveness would actually ruin the whole prayer system.
Agreement makes prayer work. You can experience a place of agreement with God’s Word, and harmony that will produce power, as you forgive and agree with another believer. You can affect governments, families and the lives of others. You can change your financial situation, affect your church and your pastor with the power of prayer. Find someone who can agree with you according to the Word of God.
The same principle works the other way. If you are in disagreement, the door is open for Satan to come in. “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work” (James 3:16).
In Matthew 18:21, Peter asked Jesus, “Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus replied, “I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
How many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus replied, “I tell you, not seven times, but Until seventy times seven” (verse 22). Forgive because God said to, and not because you feel like it.
Build your home, your church and every other area of your life on the unselfish love of God. Selfishness has never built anything it did not destroy. But love never fails. The love of God is the very center of the family of God because God is love. You are His very own child, born again with His love nature inside you.
Don’t let that love lie dormant. Cast down selfishness and let loose the love of God in you. You cannot fail when love is in dominion.
When you forgive and reach for harmony, you come to a place where you have the spiritual awareness to perceive the closeness of God. Jesus said if you get into harmony and agree together, He would be in the midst of you. God wants to be involved with you.
When you are in harmony and agreement with those around you, you will step into a deeper, more personal fellowship with God. He becomes real and vital to you. Fellowship with your heavenly Father is one of the greatest things you will ever have in your Christian walk! It causes a confidence and an assurance deep down in your heart. You know your prayers are answered because you have conformed yourself to His will. As you forgive, the joy that comes through answered prayer will become your own personal experience. Jesus said, “Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:24).
36 And leaving the throng, they took Him with them, [just] as He was, in the boat [in which He was sitting]. And other boats were with Him.
38 But He [Himself] was in the stern [of the boat], asleep on the [leather] cushion; and they awoke Him and said to Him, Master, do You not care that we are perishing?
39 And He arose and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, Hush now! Be still (muzzled)! And the wind ceased ([q]sank to rest as if exhausted by its beating) and there was [immediately] a great calm ([r]a perfect peacefulness).
40 He said to them, Why are you so timid and fearful? How is it that you have no faith (no [s]firmly relying trust)?
41 And they were filled with great awe and [t]feared exceedingly and said one to another, Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey Him? Mark 4:36-41 Amplified Bible
This past week my church had an evangelist who came and held a revival. I have never in my life been in meetings like those. One night he spoke on healing and I literally saw elderly people get out of wheelchairs, leave crutches at the altar because they no longer needed them, and they walked unassisted. I was healed of acid reflux, with which I have suffered for over 20 years. It is so odd for me to go to bed at night without taking some type of acid blocker. I cannot thank God enough!
Another night, the evangelist spoke on anxiety. This night the message really stood out to me because some of the things he said, the Lord had spoken to me in earlier years. He used the passage where Jesus and the disciples were going to Gadara. Jesus was going to deliver a man by the man of “Legion” because he was possessed of that many demons. A legion is equal to 6,000. Jesus went to that town for one person and to do one thing and that was to deliver him. He didn’t heal anyone else, He didn’t deliver anyone else, He didn’t do any miracles for anyone else. That is how much Jesus loves all…He goes after the ONE!
As He and His disciples were in their ship, a storm of hurricane proportions came up. The disciples were petrified! The ship had begun to take on water and their lives were in certain danger. They began to look for Jesus and found Him sleeping in the hull of the ship by the rudder on a pillow! Now, we all know you can’t do serious sleeping without a pillow! Jesus was really out!
When the disciples saw this they became a bit perturbed with Jesus. I have always thought about this. How could Jesus sleep so soundly with all the rocking the ship had to be doing. The disciples were in a panic and they had to be shouting. Jesus had to be in a very sound sleep to not be awakened by all the commotion. Even the disciples, when they found Him, questioned Him about how He could sleep at a time like that. One got so aggravated he said to Him, “Don’t you even care we are about to die??”
The same waves, the same ferocious wind that petrified the disciples literally lulled Jesus into a deep sleep. Jesus went to the top deck and said calmly, “Peace, be still.” The wind abruptly ceased and the disciples marvelled and asked one another what manner of man was this that even the wind and sea obeyed Him? Jesus marvelled Himself, but He marvelled at their lack of faith.
Jesus knew the authority He carried, and He knew God had told Him to go (He never did anything except what the Father told Him), and He knew because this was God’s will, it was going to happen and nothing was going to stop them from getting to the other side! When God tells us something, makes a promise to us, gives His Word on something take it to the bank, as we say in Texas, IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN! You don’t have to worry over it, fret over it, be afraid you will mess it up and lose it, God is coming through with that promise!
There are many things God has promised every single believer. He has promised healing, salvation, security, protection, financial security, love, to be a very present help in time of need, peace, joy, emotional well-being, purpose, heaven, and much more! We serve a “more than enough” God! When God says it, it is done!
Satan is not going to let you walk into your promise and the fulfillment of God’s plan without seeing if he can give you some grief in the meantime to postpone it or just to make you miserable in the process! The last thing he wants is for you to be a happy overcomer! This is where you have to step up like Jesus did and say to YOUR waves, “Peace, be still!”
Are you letting the waves shake you up, or lull you to sleep? Are you remembering that God has spoken it, therefore no matter what you see it will be? Are you remembering God is ultimately in control so you might as well grab your pillow and enjoy the trip? You have used your authority, you have stood on the word, you have heard from God, you have kept yourself in tune with the Holy Spirit and His guidance, now all that is left is for you to relax until you see it. Yes, it is that easy!
Whatever your waves are, precious reader, remember God has a purpose for you and He will see you through. Nothing has caught Him by surprise. He cares deeply and greatly for you and all that concerns you, and you will see the fulfillment of all God has said He will do. Let the waves lull you and not panic you. Enjoy the trip to the other side, because when you get there you will have a testimony of just how personal and faithful God is to the one, and that one is you!
At one time the whole earth had the same language and vocabulary.[a] 2 As people[b] migrated from the east,[c] they found a valley in the land of Shinar and settled there. 3 They said to each other, “Come, let us make oven-fired bricks.” They used brick for stone and asphalt for mortar. 4 And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky. Let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise, we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
5 Then the Lord came down to look over the city and the tower that the men were building. 6 The Lord said, “If they have begun to do this as one people all having the same language, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. 7 Come, let Us go down there and confuse[d] their language[e] so that they will not understand one another’s speech.”[f] 8 So from there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth, and they stopped building the city. 9 Therefore its name is called Babylon,[g] for there the Lord confused the language of the whole earth, and from there the Lord scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
Satan‘s number one tool to try to split churches, Christians, families, and the body of Christ is division. Unity is a powerful force! God even said if He had not confused the languages of the heathen they would have succeeded in building the Tower of Babel. That is powerful!
We are a family and we are God’s family. What is a family? A family is where we are all for one and one for all. We come to the aid of the other when there is trouble. We don’t allow the other members of the family to struggle when we can help them. We do whatever is possible and in our power to help our parents, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, etc.. The church is no different. We are God’s children if we have received Jesus as Lord and Saviour of our lives! We are all in covenant with God and God with us. Why would we go to extremes to help one another in such a way? Because of one word! Love!!
Love is a powerful thing! It can overlook the worst in a person and love in spite of it. Love doesn’t approve it, but love has an anointing to thrive even in the toughest of circumstances and in the face of faults! Think of a mother with her child. When that child is struggling with something the mother doesn’t pull away from the child nor does she withdraw her love. If anything, the mother will pull the child tighter to her heart, pray all night long, cry out to God, fast, and intercede until she sees a change. It seems as if that mother loves that child more when they are in trouble than when times were more peaceful. Does she? No. What we see is the mother focusing on the battle that child is in, and she is going to fight to the end for her baby, no matter what age that baby may be. Love overcomes all obstacles! Love (God’s heart and very essence) never fails to love!! We are to be like our Heavenly Father and mirror His love!
When children fight among themselves, does the mother turn on one child and cling to the other? No! She brings wisdom and peace to the situation and restores order to the family. It is the same for us as children of God. We are the church! We are never to be at war with one another. No matter what our color, nationality, socio-economic, or educational backgrounds may be! We are all equal, and we are to LOVE equally!
If satan can divide us into men vs. women, black vs. white, poor vs. rich, this denomination vs. that denomination then we are in trouble, my friend! He knows it, too! Jesus already won it all and satan is a defeated foe, but if he can get us off focus of the high calling and onto earthly things we have forfeited many victories!
We cannot see things as the world sees it. We have to look through God’s eyes! The world is an ungodly place, but we must remain salt and light! Never let the world pull us apart! Walk in the love of God if it takes every ounce of strength you have to do it! Jesus’ returning is too soon to lose sight of the prize now!
Blessings, precious reader!! I will see you soon! Simply, Juliana
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; 6 think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.[a]
Even as I begin this I am not sure of where I am going with it exactly. Every writer knows you lose or gain a reader in the first paragraph! For a writer to make such an admission is, well, foolish! But, at the same time it goes right along with what God is desiring to teach us today; being finely tuned to His thoughts while tuning your own reasoning out!
Earlier in the week, I could not get a particular friend off of my mind. I said a prayer for her, but still she was there in the forefront of my thinking. I decided that night I would call and check on her. When I called she began to tell me she and her husband were having a terrible time financially and she had, had to take an old position with a company she had once worked for years ago. It was not an ideal working condition because it was mainly family owned and the family didn’t show up most of the time. Others who worked there were former prisoners and, to put it delicately, they were not men she would be safe to be alone with.
God spoke to me she had gone back to something that was familiar to her and He was going to have her quit this job very soon. He also told me to warn her that she would be tempted to talk herself into staying which would be a grave mistake! I had my answer about why she had been on my mind. She told me that was exactly right, and that was what she had been doing; staying in the familiar. Nothing had worked out for her, and all the old problems that had been there years ago that caused her to quit were still exactly the same.
This dear friend is incredibly talented in an area that is difficult to find. The thing she can do is in high demand and has the potential to be a booming business. She told me how much she loved it, but could not seem to get it off the ground. The reason she couldn’t is because she had not asked God to direct her in the area of business and to give her witty ideas and inventions in growing it.
As we talked and prayed together God began to tell her things she needed to do in order to grow the business that was her passion! He also told her when He said walk away from the current job, she was not to let anything stop her. It is imperative she leaves when He says to.
How many times have we missed our dreams because we talked ourselves out of what God said? How many times have we wondered if God was really speaking to us? How many times have we weighed the pros and cons in our minds just to say no and see someone else down the road living OUR vision because we were afraid to leave the familiar that gave us a false sense of security?
Eve did this very thing when she sinned in the Garden of Eden. Satan came to her, pointed to the tree of knowledge and told her to eat from it. When she told him they had been forbidden to partake of that particular tree by God the first words out of Satan’s mouth were, “Did God really mean that?” What was he doing? He was trying to bring doubt to her reasoning mind of what God had said. Doubt is what lost the Garden to Eve! Adam knew better, but wanted to please Eve (people pleasing spirit) and ate and lost his authority and the blessing. To this day, we pay a price for what happened that day in Eden.
Two things can cost you your dream and detain your blessing! Doubt and worrying what others may think! “People won’t like it if I move, don’t go to that college, major in Theology instead of what Grandpa, Dad, and Uncles majored in!” It may be you are afraid of the “gamble” of the unknown. Abraham set out for a land he knew not of! He had no idea where he was going, he only knew God said leave everything and go! Look what happened when he trusted God above his own reasoning. The Bible tells us he didn’t even waste time thinking about it. He had such faith in God, he just did what God said knowing He could be trusted and the result would be good!
Now let us look at another young man who thought too much and didn’t listen well enough. The rich young ruler who asked Jesus what he needed to do to follow Him is who I am referring to. Let us look at this account in full.
Amplified Bible (AMP)
17 And as He was setting out on His journey, a man ran up and knelt before Him and asked Him, Teacher, [You are [a]essentially and perfectly [b]morally] good, what must I do to inherit eternal life [that is, [c]to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah’s kingdom]?
19 You know the commandments: Do not kill, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.
20 And he replied to Him, Teacher, I have carefully guarded and observed all these and taken care not to violate them from my boyhood.
21 And Jesus, looking upon him, loved him, and He said to him, You lack one thing; go and sell all you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come [and] accompany Me [[h]walking the same road that I walk].
22 At that saying the man’s countenance fell and was gloomy, and he went away grieved and sorrowing, for he was holding great possessions.
This young man had done everything right all of his life! He had been faithful to be moral and obedient to the commandments. When Jesus told him to sell all and follow Him, it says the man became gloomy and went away grieved and in sorrow. I don’t believe this young man was ever the same again! This account teaches us two very important things. 1. Money cannot buy you happiness! 2. You will never be happy or fulfilled if you aren’t doing what God has called you to do!
What opportunities this young man passed up! What greater things he could have had. I believe this man never got over this. He had to have thought about what his life could have been as opposed to what it was. He had to have wondered as he made more money and accrued more riches, how much more had he lost that a price could never be put upon! He had to have dealt with tormenting thoughts, depression, and a lack of satisfaction in life because he sold himself out to things that never could compare with what Jesus was offering that day, which was the very Kingdom of Heaven! He let familiarity, material possessions, security of the known, and position own him instead of him owning them!
God will never tell you to do anything that is to your detriment! When God speaks, He always has a plan for great reward for great obedience. If you were to hire a laborer to come into your home and do a job would you even think about not paying that laborer? Not if you have any integrity about you, you wouldn’t! How much more so with God, Who is righteous and perfect in ALL of His ways! Would He not do much more so than we who are imperfect?
Walk in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh, but more so you will fulfill the beautiful plans that have been made beforehand just for you, by your Father, God Himself, ruler and maker of heaven and earth!! Nothing this world or what people can offer you can even compare!
It is worth it to follow and not get ahead of the Holy Spirit. He will lead you in plain paths, He will lead you straight into one blessing after the next. He will lead you out of trouble and into the marvelous light of God’s truth and change your life for the best! Trust Him and lean not to your own understanding. When you do, you will never have to live with regrets and that is a good place to be!
Blessings to you, precious reader! I will see you soon! Simply, Juliana
28 You shall also decide and decree a thing, and it shall be established for you; and the light [of God’s favor] shall shine upon your ways.
