Kountze,Texas Cheerleaders Boldly Show Their Faith to the World!

The sign the cheerleader’s made!

“Our little town is sticking together and standing behind our kids!!! Someone has tried to prevent our cheerleaders from …
using religious scriptures on their run-through signs at the football games. This was all led by our children, and they made the decision to give the glory to God this year. We, as a community, will stand up for our kids and make sure they do not lose their voice and their rights in this. We have a group of parents who are not only outraged, but have decided to make a huge statement for our kids! We need all the support we can get for our kids in our little town!”

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS.  This is a small high school team in deep southeast Texas that decided God was more important than what people thought!

These cheerleaders from Kountze, Texas took a stand and it is VERY CONSTITUTIONAL!   They have every right to do what they are doing.  The way the law reads  (and I am paraphrasing, it is not exactly like this but you get the picture!) is A TEACHER OR ANY PAID EMPLOYEE OF A SCHOOL CANNOT bring up a pro- religious discussion concerning a denomination or the Bible, nor initiate any form of religious establishment or institute,  nor can they initiate prayer, but STUDENTS CAN.  STUDENTS HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO EXERCISE THEIR BELIEFS AS LONG AS THEY HAVE NOT BEEN COERCED!  Thank God, these cheerleaders had the guts, boldness and fortitude to do just that!

If you are on Facebook and would like to support these cheerleaders, you can find them under the heading, “Support Kountze Kids Faith”.  I know I am!!

Blessings, dear reader!  May we all carry and show forth the boldness the Holy Spirit has put on the inside of every born again Christian!

True Champions Finish Their Race

True Champions Finish Their Race.

True Champions Finish Their Race

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 2 Timothy 4:7

I am not a sports fan, but I happened to be watching a particular event with my husband during the 1994 Olympics.  The athlete was Derek Redmond and the event was the 400.  I watched as this young man ran with such speed and grace around the track.  You could tell he had this race won.  He had trained and nothing was going to stop him.  He and his father had discussed all the hardships that he had faced.  How he would ignore all the failures, all the heart breaks, and no matter what he would would finish the race!

When preparing for a race, you are pushed to what seems like literal breaking points sometimes.  I have heard athletes say they felt like their lungs were going to burst and their muscles were on fire and just when they thought they weren’t going to make it, they got that “second wind”.  Training is never easy.  What keeps true champions from quitting is the fact that something in them pushes them.  It is the passion to do what they were born to do!

Derek was only 175 meters from finishing when his hamstring popped.  He fell to the ground, but determined to finish he got back on his feet again.  Derek sees the medical personnel running toward him with a stretcher. Derek is later quoted as saying, “No, there’s no way I’m getting on that stretcher. I’m going to finish my race.”  Derek then begins to hobble toward the finish line.  All the runners that had been so far behind him were now flying past and seemed to be taking the win.  Suddenly, you see Derek’s father waving off security and running to his son’s side.  He puts his arm around him and begins to speak words of encouragement as Derek hobbles, crying with disappointment.  Suddenly the crowd realizes Derek isn’t quitting!!  He is FINISHING the race!  They stand to their feet and begin to applaud, not the gold medal winner, but Derek for his fortitude and determination in the face of an impossible obstacle!  Derek told ESPN, “I wasn’t doing it for the crowd,” he would later say. “I was doing it for me. Whether people thought I was an idiot or a hero, I wanted to finish the race. I’m the one who has to live with it.”  That is a true champion.

True champions don’t do what they do for recognition, fame, or for any other reason other than the fact they know this is what they were born to do and nothing is going to stop them!  Many people don’t finish their race because they lose sight of their focus, which isn’t beating all others, but finishing their own course to the very end with excellence.  This is what Timothy was talking about in our scripture for the day.  Timothy was killed not long after writing this.  He knew his time was short, and it was important to maintain his focus and finish with the excellence of his faith remaining intact. How many people have stood on this scripture to finish college, seminary, medical school, huge work projects, or many others that were holding on to this verse for personal reasons, in order to remain determined to see the obstacles in their lives obliterated?   What if Timothy had become lazy and basically quit when it was so important to remain stable and focused?  Because of this scripture many people see the finish line and become more determined than ever to finish and finish well!  There are some that, when they  see the finish line in sight, they stop striving.   They just kind of sit down and quit.  The race is not over until you cross the finish line, my friend, and not a second before!  You could have been  running ahead of the others throughout most of the race, but if you become lazy and quit in the midst of it, you will never respect yourself.  You will lose not only the respect of others, but your testimony and the credibility of your witness in the process as well.  What a waste of all the hard work that was put into the training prior to the end.

That day the crowd’s attention wasn’t on  the one who received the gold medal.  They remember Derek Redmond!  To me, the winner wasn’t really the “announced” winner.  He took advantage of another’s weakness and I had was not impressed with that runner.

Notice Derrick’s  father stayed by his side to the very end.  God does the same for us!  Derek’s father is quoted as saying, “I’m the proudest father alive,” he tells the press afterwards, with tears in his eyes. “I’m prouder of him than I would have been if he had won the gold medal. It took a lot of guts for him to do what he did.”

God isn’t looking for His child to stand out above His other children.  God is proud when we are determined to finish our race with the same faith, the same passion, the same excellent attitude we started the race with. He is pleased when we maintain our focus and what He has called us to do until the very end!
